This course examines the role of sport in American society and the sociological significance of sport on an individual, interactional, and institutional level. Social issues covered in the course may include, but are not limited to violence and sports, economics of sports, sports and the mass media, sporting behavior, and the extent to which overall sport participation is affected by the variables of gender, race, social class, disability, and age.
